What is “Ministry” on a Richmond Holiday? A Deeper Look

When you think of a holiday, what comes to mind? Sun-drenched beaches, mountain peaks, a good book by the pool, and a welcome escape from the daily routine. It’s a time to switch off and recharge.

Here at Richmond Holidays, we know how wonderful it is to take a break from the everyday. We also believe a holiday can be an invitation to draw closer to God. Being away from the usual pressures, surrounded by beautiful creation, can create a unique space to reflect, rejoice, and renew your faith!

A Place to Belong: Our Ethos of Community and Ministry

We believe the most beautiful destinations are made even better when shared in good company. Christian faith has never been intended to be walked alone. Scripture consistently points us toward shared life, mutual encouragement, and “never stop meeting together”

This is why community is not an added extra in our ministry – it is central to it.

That’s why our passion is to build a genuine sense of Christian community on every holiday. Our in-resort ministry is the foundation of that community.

It’s not just about a service; it’s about the life we share together. It’s the encouraging conversations over breakfast, the shared laughter on a day trip, and the comfort of praying together.

Our ministry leaders are there to guide the group’s spiritual life through shared teaching and worship. The primary form of spiritual support on our holidays comes from these group settings and the wonderful, organic encouragement that flows from friend-to-friend. It’s a ministry model that builds up the whole body, creating a space where everyone can receive.

In that sense, ministry on a Richmond Holiday is not just about what is delivered, but about what is formed among people.

As one lovely guest shared:

“The people are what make a Richmond holiday so special! You feel like you have come away with 50+ friends and that includes the staff. The ministry is great too, when I go on holiday, I don’t want to be taking a break from God!” –  Nina, Samos, October 2025

It's a Holiday!

At Richmond Holidays, it’s important to remember first and foremost – you are on holiday!

You are there to rest, explore, enjoy beautiful surroundings, meet new people, and simply take a break from everyday life.

Alongside all the things that make a holiday special, we also gently create space for spiritual reflection and encouragement. This is what we mean when we talk about ministry – but perhaps a better way to describe it is spiritual hospitality.

Just as we offer hospitality in practical ways – a warm welcome, a seat at the table, a place to rest – ministry is that same welcome extended to the soul. It simply means creating space where people can pause, reflect, and engage with God in a way that feels natural and unforced alongside everything else that makes a Richmond Holidays so special.

Alexandra helpfully shared:

“I thought it was an incredible experience, with the option of doing as much or as little as you like. I loved meeting so many different people and building friendships that will last. The space created to help connect with God more was so precious and I left feeling refreshed and closer to Jesus.”- Alexandra, Samos, July 2025

It's an Invitation

Ministry at Richmond is also an invitation! Every aspect of our spiritual programme is completely optional. You can join in with as much or as little as feels right for you. For some, that might be attending every session; for others, it might be simply enjoying the fellowship of being with other Christians or spending time alone in the great outdoors.

The heart of our ministry isn’t about filling your schedule, but about creating space for God to work. It’s designed to be an uplifting and enriching part of your holiday experience, woven gently into the fabric of your stay.

“I loved the range of activities on offer and felt like I could opt out and rest where I needed too!”- Emma, Samos, July 2025

A gentle Rhythm: The Shape of our Days

So, what can you practically expect? Our ministry has a relaxed, unintrusive rhythm.

  • Morning Reflections: We start each day with a short, optional time of prayer and reflection. It’s a beautiful and peaceful way to centre your heart and mind on God before you head out to explore, swim, ski or relax!

“There was something very special about morning prayers on the beach, looking at the expanse of sea and sky confronted us with God’s majestic power afresh each day.” – Nina, October, Samos 2025

  • Evening Gatherings: In the evenings, we hold informal meetings that include times of sung worship, prayer, and accessible, in-depth teaching from God’s Word. These gatherings are relaxed and relational – think of them as a time for the holiday family to come together to be encouraged and inspired!

“Of course, I enjoyed the skiing, but it is such a blessing to be able to find spiritual refreshment during a holiday too. Being able to meet together with other guests and worship together and explore God’s word is a valuable part of the trip. It enables me to go home physically and spiritually refreshed.” – Frances, Reberty, December 2025

Depending on the resort and the week, we may also hold special worship evenings or a Sunday communion service, all in the same informal and welcoming spirit.

Our heart is to create a welcoming, faith-filled holiday environment where encouragement grows naturally through community, shared worship, and simply spending time together.

A holiday for Body, Soul and Spirit

Ultimately, ministry on a Richmond Holiday is about connection – connecting with God in a fresh and meaningful way, connecting with fellow believers, and reconnecting with yourself away from the busyness and noise of everyday life. It is a time of fellowship, encouragement, and gentle renewal, with many guests returning home feeling strengthened, uplifted, and refreshed in both body and spirit.

If you are looking for a holiday that nourishes your soul as well as restores your body, we warmly invite you to come and experience what ‘ministry’ in a resort setting truly means. It may well become one of the most meaningful and refreshing parts of your time away!
