The Easiest Family Holiday You’ll Ever Take: A Guide for Parents of Children and Youth
Family holidays matter.
They’re a chance to step away from the usual routines of everyday life – the morning rush, school runs, after-school clubs, work deadlines, and the constant feeling of trying to be everywhere at once!
A week away together creates space for something different. Time to slow down. Time to laugh together. Time to reconnect as a family without the usual distractions.
At Richmond Holidays, we believe family holidays can be genuinely life-giving for every member of the family. Because everyone is thoughtfully cared for, encouraged, and given space to flourish.
Richmond Holidays offers dedicated programmes for children (ages 4–11) and youth (ages 12–17) in Samos, with clubs running five mornings a week, alongside a huge range of activities families can enjoy together!
Last summer I had the privilege of spending time out in resort in Samos, seeing the children’s and youth programme in action. I usually work behind the scenes in the Richmond office, so watching everything unfold in real life was a gift!
And what struck me most wasn’t just the fun being had (though there was plenty of that!). It was the atmosphere. Trust. Laughter. Worship songs drifting across the beach. Leaders kneeling down to listen properly to stories and questions. It felt intentional. It felt safe. It felt like family.
The Secret Ingredient: Children’s Club (Ages 4–11)
Let’s be honest – the children’s programme can make or break a family holiday!
At Richmond, it isn’t an add-on. It’s central to the whole experience.
Our children’s teams aren’t just high-energy legends armed with craft supplies and an alarming amount of neon glitter! (though they are impressively equipped!). They are thoughtful, committed Christian leaders who care deeply about the children in front of them.
Our Children’s programme provides a welcoming, safe environment where children can build friendships, grow in confidence, and have endless fun together with caring Christian leaders.
Each morning the children gather for their programme, five days a week. It’s a chance to play games, hear Bible stories, take part in creative activities, and enjoy being part of a group where everyone is included!
But what really stood out to me while visiting the resort was the way the leaders interacted with the children. They weren’t just organising activities – they were getting to know each child properly. Listening. Encouraging. Celebrating their small victories.
Children quickly feel known, valued and part of the group.
And the fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down…
Children can enjoy supervised children’s tea followed by evening activities, with childcare continuing until 9pm. It means they get more time with their friends and leaders, while parents can enjoy a relaxed dinner knowing their children are happy and well cared for.
Youth Programme (Ages 12–17)
Teenagers, of course, require a slightly different approach…
The youth programme begins at a very civilised 10am – because even on holiday, a lie-in is sacred territory!
Mornings are packed with activities organised by the youth team. Depending on the day, this might include things like scavenger hunts around the resort, team challenges, sports tournaments, or the occasional Youth Olympics-style event that brings plenty of competitive spirit (and laughter!).
But the programme isn’t just about organised activities. There’s also space to talk, relax, and build genuine friendships with others their age.
One of my favourite moments while visiting the resort was an epic water fight that suddenly broke out between the youth leaders and the teenagers. It started completely out of nowhere and quickly turned into chaos – everyone running around, laughing hysterically, and getting thoroughly soaked!
Moments like that are exactly what make the youth programme special. It’s relaxed, welcoming, and full of joy.
The evenings are something else entirely. Youth evenings create space for worship and teaching that is honest, relaxed, and welcoming – wherever teenagers are in their faith journey!
While I was there, I watched the youth really leaning in – not because they had to, but because they wanted to. Real questions. Real conversations. Real laughter. It felt like genuine community. A place where faith felt personal, not pressured.
The Magic of Time Together
While the clubs run during the mornings, the afternoons are intentionally left open for families to enjoy time together.
And this is where some of the most memorable moments happen!
I watched dads and daughters wobbling determinedly across paddleboards. Families cheering each other on during slightly chaotic sailing races. Siblings diving enthusiastically into beach volleyball games!
Richmond offers a huge range of activities – from sailing and paddleboarding to tennis, cycling and fun art on the terrace! So, families can choose how adventurous (or relaxed) they want their afternoons to be!
At Richmond Holidays, the combination of dedicated children’s and youth programmes with plenty of shared family time ensures every member of the family has a holiday that is fun, refreshing, and spiritually nourishing.
Simply enjoying God’s creation together – sunshine, sea, laughter, and shared adventures!
A Different Kind of Family Holiday
After seeing it firsthand in Samos last summer, I came away with a whole new appreciation for how important the children’s and youth ministry is to the Richmond experience.
Families don’t leave looking like they’ve survived something.
They leave lighter. Reconnected. Spiritually refreshed.
Camera rolls full of genuine smiles. Children already asking if they can come back next year. Teenagers leaving with new friendships. Parents quietly grateful for a week that strengthened not just their family time, but their faith as well!
If you’ve ever wondered whether a relaxing, faith-filled family holiday is really possible – it is. And it’s waiting for you in Samos!
Why not take the step and see it for yourself? Come, bring your family, and discover the joy, laughter, and space to connect and enjoy all that a Richmond Holiday has to offer the whole family!
Because the best memories are the ones you make together.
