Testing & Passenger Locator Forms

England’s entry requirements are detailed on the UK Government website and Greece’s entry requirements are shown on the UK Foreign Office Website and the Greek Government website.

We are happy to help and share our top tips as follows, but with information changing regularly, it is your responsibility to make sure you fulfil any entry requirements at the time of travel. Please note that the below information refers to adults travelling to Samos; you will need to check the government websites for information about testing requirements for children.

If you have received both vaccine doses at least 14 days before departure and can provide evidence for this, there is no need to take a test prior to arriving in Greece. You will need to provide suitable evidence of your vaccination status. See accepted forms of evidence – as you will see, your NHS vaccine appointment card is not sufficient so please ensure you provide alternative acceptable evidence.

If you are not fully vaccinated, you will need to take a “test to depart” before you travel to Greece. Antigen tests are now accepted and can be taken at home before travel or in the airport before flying, however, you cannot use a free NHS test for this purpose. If you do need a “test to depart”, we have used c19 Testing, who sell Rapid Antigen Tests for £29 per test. These are suitable for entering Greece. You will need to order this in plenty of time to arrive before your holiday and then self-administer the test within 48 hours of your flight. The tests are valid for up to one year after ordering so you can do this well in advance of your holiday but you must not take it sooner than 48 hours before departure. You will need internet access to enter your details online and a certificate will be emailed to you, which you can print off and take with you or show on your device at the airport. 

All passengers are required to complete a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) before entering Greece. You must complete this online no later than 11:59pm (local time Greece) the day before arriving in Greece, so it is advised that you do this in good time before your holiday. All guests will be required to take a pre-return Covid test (a “test to return”) in Samos towards the end of your holiday in order to re-enter England. You will need to take this pre-return test even if you have been fully vaccinated, since vaccination status alone is not sufficient for re-entering England.

We recommend that you pre-order your test in the UK and take it with you in your suitcase – the c19testing Rapid Antigen test is suitable for this purpose. You can self-administer this test in Samos in the 3 days before the service on which you will arrive in England departs. You will need to ensure you have a device with internet access to upload your results and have your certificate emailed to you to show at the airport. Please note, results from a free NHS lateral flow test will not be accepted.

Alternatively, if you do not have a device with suitable internet access, you can visit a Pharmacy in Samos town to have a Rapid Antigen test taken. You will need to take a taxi to the Pharmacy and visit the walk in clinic – our team will be happy to help with booking the taxi to the correct location. The test will be administered and you will receive a certificate to take with you on your flight. This will cost about 20 euros plus the taxi fare.

All guests must also complete a second Passenger Locator Form (PLF) before entering the UK. You must complete this online within the 48 hours before arriving back in England; therefore, please take a device which can connect to the internet with you to Samos. All guests will be required to take a PCR test on Day 2 after returning to England, including those who have been fully vaccinated. If Samos is on the “amber” list at the time of your holiday, you will also be required to take another on Day 8, unless you are fully vaccinated. If you have not been fully vaccinated and Samos is on the “amber” list, you will also need to self-isolate for 10 days upon returning to the UK. 

It is an entry requirement of England to have pre-booked your Day 2 test (and Day 8 test if required), so please ensure you have pre-ordered these before returning from your holiday. You will need to provide the unique reference for each test on your Passenger Locator Form, so please make a note of these references when you receive your order confirmation email.

We recommend Randox Health and we have been given a discount code through our membership with the TTA. Although this supplier represents good value for money and we have had good experience using them, there are several test suppliers available to you, so do make sure you are happy with whichever test supplier you choose.

You can buy either a Day 2 PCR Test if you are fully vaccinated, or Day 2 and Day 8 PCR Tests if you are not fully vaccinated and Greece is still on the “amber” list.

Randox Health has their own network of drop-boxes available for you to return your sample to their labs for free (please check their website to find your nearest location) or you can post your sample at your own expense using your preferred courier to their lab address shown on their website.

Summer 2021 FAQs

The FCDO no longer advice against travel to Greece or its islands so most major insurance policies will provide cover for your holiday. Also, quarantine restrictions for those returning to the UK from an amber list destination have now been removed for anyone fully vaccinated (at least 14 days before entry to UK) and those aged under 18.

Holidays will, of course, be a little different during 2021 as we do our very best to keep you safe in these unprecedented circumstances. The core elements of relaxation in the sun, adventure, fun on boats and bikes, Christian fellowship and heartfelt hospitality will be the same and there will, of course, be some changes to ensure your safety and to minimise risk.

We will continue to follow both UK and local guidance to ensure your safety and enjoyment.

All funds that you pay to Richmond are securely held in trust with the Travel Trust Association until you return from your holiday. We do not access these funds in advance for any reason, meaning you can have confidence that your funds are available to be returned to you anytime, if you are entitled to a refund.

Please visit https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/greece/entry-requirements for up-to-date entry requirements. We recommend that you sign up for FCDO travel advice email alerts so that you don’t miss any updates.

As stated by the Greek government, no self-isolation period will be required upon arrival for those who provide proof of either full vaccination or a negative test result before travelling.

All travellers entering Greece will need to fill out a Passenger Locator Form at least 24 hours before arrival. Please visit the Greek tourism website to complete yours and ensure you bring a printed copy to the airport with you.

You will have booked your flight independently, so if you receive notification from your airline that your flight has been cancelled, please follow their instruction as to how to receive a flight refund from the airline or defer your flight booking to a later date.

In the event that your flight is cancelled, we have added an extra level of protection to your accommodation reservation. For our Summer 2021 season, if your flight is cancelled by the airline, we will give you the option to defer your Richmond holiday for no admin fee, or cancel for a 100% refund. Please contact our office with proof of flight booking and cancellation and we will be happy to help.

Our resort in Samos is open and operating holidays right now! Richmond is committed to running holidays in Samos for the remainder of Summer 2021, having opened on 08 July, and our staff team are in place already to serve you and other guests.

If, in the very unlikely situation that there are unforeseen circumstances that lead to Richmond needing to cancel your holiday, we will contact you by email to notify you and to offer you a 100% refund of the funds you have paid, or a deferment to a later holiday for with no admin fees.

Yes, it is essential and a condition of booking that you have travel insurance in place. We suggest a policy that covers for cancellations in the event of illness and unforeseeable events as well as for travel disruption in case your flight is rescheduled.

Richmond is currently operating holidays to Samos and will continue to do so unless the very unlikely event the Samos is moved onto the UK government red list.

If Richmond has to cancel your 2021 holiday at any point, or if your flight is cancelled by the airline before your departure, you can choose to defer your summer holiday to a later date, with no admin fee charged.

We have additional, more flexible terms if you have to self-isolate upon return to the UK, please see below.

If, for a reason not listed above, you contact us to request a deferment with more than 10 weeks before your departure date, we may be able to facilitate your request for just a £50pp admin fee, subject to availability.

Outside of these conditions, choosing to change your dates is considered a cancellation and so would be subject to our usual cancellation terms. The new dates would be treated as a new booking.

Richmond is currently operating holidays and will continue to do so as long as Samos remains on the amber list or moves up to green. As of 08 July, the FCDO also updated its travel advice for Greece, stating “The FCDO no longer advises against all but essential travel to the whole of Greece, including all the Greek Islands, based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks”.

For those who are fully vaccinated or under the age of 18, there are no longer any quarantine restrictions upon your return to the UK if Samos is on the amber list. Therefore, the UK entry requirements are the same as those returning from a green list country and, as such, any cancellations or changes in date are subject to our usual booking terms and conditions.

However, if – within 28 days of your departure – we know that travelling to Samos will require you to officially self-isolate upon your return to the UK, you will have the option to defer your holiday for no fee, subject to availability.

It is extremely unlikely that Greece will move onto the red list this summer, due to the fantastic vaccination programme and low infection rates.

If Greece is on the red list at the time of your holiday, we will contact you to inform you that your holiday has been cancelled. You can then request a full refund, or a fee-free deferment – whichever is best for you.

Please be assured that we will contact you if your holiday is cancelled, so you don’t need to worry if you have not heard from us. We will aim to give you at least two weeks’ notice.

TUI have also stated that they will cancel their flights if the destination is on the red list, so you can be confident that your finances are safe. Please click here for details.

If you decide to cancel your Summer holiday for a reason other than your flight being cancelled by the airline, this will be subject to our usual cancellation terms as outlined here. Therefore, it is essential that you purchase good travel insurance that will provide cover if you cancel your holiday due to unforeseen circumstances such as ill health.

If you contract or come into contact with Covid-19 before you fly, you have the option of deferring or cancelling your holiday.

If you decide to cancel your holiday, then please contact your travel insurance providers to start a claim. Many insurance companies are now providing Covid cover in their policies and it is essential you have the appropriate cover for your holiday.

If the FCDO advice is against travelling at the time of your departure due to Samos remaining on the amber list, your travel insurance may not cover you for cancellations related to Covid-19. However, in this instance, please contact Richmond directly regarding deferring your holiday.
