FAQs

Richmond Holidays provides 100% financial protection on all holiday bookings.

All funds that you pay to Richmond are securely held in a sperate trust account with the Travel Trust Association until you return from your holiday. In some cases we are able to insure your funds in order to pay advance deposits to suppliers, in this instance, if the supplier or indeed Richmond were to fail, the insurance product covers the entirety of your holiday funds and will be returned to you in full.

Please visit the UK government’s FCDO website for up-to-date entry requirements for your holiday destination. We recommend that you sign up for FCDO travel advice email alerts so that you don’t miss any updates.

If it is not possible to provide your holiday or a suitable alternative then we will contact you by email to notify you and to offer you a 100% refund of the funds you have paid, or a deferment to a later holiday for with no admin fees.

For clarity, travel restrictions that don’t affect the ability to provide the holiday are unlikely to lead Richmond to cancelling your holiday.

Yes, it is essential and a condition of booking that you have travel insurance in place. We suggest a policy that covers for cancellations in the event of illness and unforeseeable events as well as for travel disruption in case your flight is rescheduled. You will also want to be covered for any costs associated with contracting Covid before or during your holiday (such as the cost of a quarantine hotel and alternative travel). You may also wish to look for a policy that covers you if the FCO advice changes to be against all but essential travel.

In the unlikely even that Richmond cancels your holiday, you can choose to defer your holiday to a later date, receive a credit note or a refund.

In some circumstances, with more than 10 weeks remaining before your departure date, we may be able to facilitate a deferral to a different date for a £50pp admin fee, subject to availability.

Within 10 weeks of your scheduled departure, it is not possible to defer your holiday. However, you would be able to cancel your holiday and there may be partial refund available subject to our usual cancellation terms. We are very happy to utilise any remaining credit toward a future holiday at dates that are more suitable.

Depending on your reason for deferral, your travel insurance may cover some or all of the costs of these changes. Please do ensure you have reviewed your policy to confirm you have the necessary level of cover.

It is essential that you purchase good travel insurance for your holiday, including Covid cover. This should cover any costs associated with you or any member of your booking contracting Covid before or during your holiday.

Additional to your travel insurance, we at Richmond will offer you fee-free deferment to a later holiday taking place by 31 October 2023 in either of the following circumstances:

  • If entry requirements change after you confirm your holiday so that quarantine of more than 24 hours is required upon arrival, without the possibility of testing to release early
  • If there’s a local lockdown in the area you live in and you’re unable to travel

Please note that the situation will be assessed no sooner than 14 days prior to your departure.

If you decide to cancel your holiday, this will be subject to our usual cancellation terms as outlined here. Therefore, it is essential that you purchase good travel insurance that will provide cover if you cancel your holiday due to unforeseen circumstances such as ill health.

If you contract Covid-19 before you fly, you will be unable to travel to Chalet des Neiges and will therefore be unable to come on your holiday. Please let us know as soon as possible.

Many travel insurers now provide cover for this situation so please ensure you have read your insurance policy and are happy with the level of cover provided.

Entry Requirements & CoviD measures

France and Switzerland (Ski)

England’s entry requirements are detailed on the UK Government website and France’s entry requirements are shown on the UK Foreign Office Website. This information is updated regularly so please bookmark these pages and ensure that you are keeping an eye on the changes as your holiday approaches.

Whilst we endeavour to keep the summarised information below as up-to-date and accurate as possible, it is your responsibility to make sure you fulfil the legal entry requirements at the time of your travel.

It is essential that you do not travel if you have Covid symptoms. Symptoms currently include a high temperature, a new, continuous cough and/or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.

If you are fully vaccinated, please ensure you have the following before setting off to France:

  • Proof of vaccination

You may also be asked to complete the EU PLF before boarding.

If you are not fully vaccinated, there are further entry requirements. Please visit the government website for more details.

Full entry requirements are available here: gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france/entry-requirements

Please make sure that you check this government webpage regularly as information may be updated prior to your departure, thank you.

Please be aware that whilst not an entry requirement, it is an essential requirement of your Richmond holiday that that all members of your party over the age of 5 administer a Covid test within the  48 hours before arriving at Chalet des Neiges – even if you are fully vaccinated. You can use a free NHS Lateral Flow Covid test or purchase a test from a Pharmacy/independent supplier. Please be prepared to show your negative test result to the chalet staff before entering the chalet on your day of arrival. Your chalet team will be doing spot checks and if you cannot provide a negative test result, you will not be permitted to enter the chalet until you do so. You can evidence your negative test result with a photo, a text or email from your test supplier or the NHS, or from within your NHS App.

Please ensure you have the following before setting off to Switzerland:

  • Proof of full vaccination
It is not possible to enter Switzerland for holiday purposes if you are not fully vaccinated.

Full entry requirements are available here: gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/switzerland/entry-requirements

Please make sure that you check this government webpage regularly as information may be updated prior to your departure, thank you.

Please be aware that you will also need to fulfil all French entry requirements for your holiday – these Swiss requirements are additional.

Arrivals in England from 4am on Friday 18 March 2022 are not subject to any additional Covid-19 entry requirements, whether you are vaccinated or unvaccinated.

Full entry requirements are available here: gov.uk/guidance/travel-to-england-from-another-country-during-coronavirus-covid-19

Please make sure that you check this government webpage regularly as information may be updated prior to your departure, thank you.

Pass Sanitaire

The Pass Sanitaire is required only to access establishments such as hospitals, retirement homes etc to protect the most vulnerable. If required, you can use the NHS Covid Pass as your Pass Sanitaire as this is recognised by EU countries. Simply show the QR code from within your NHS App (or on your printed Covid Pass letter) when requested so that this can be scanned.

There are additional safety measures both in the chalet and in the resort, as follows.

In the Chalet

During your holiday, government and regional regulations will be followed as well as any safety measures that your chalet team deem appropriate in order to keep everyone safe. Please note that by staying in the chalet, you are agreeing to comply with these measures as well as any additional measures that our team or the French authorities bring in at any time.

In order to keep our staff team and fellow guests safe, it is an essential requirement of your Richmond holiday that that all members of your party over the age of 5 administer a Covid test within the  48 hours before arriving at Chalet des Neiges – even if you are fully vaccinated. You can use a free NHS Covid test, or a test purchased from a Pharmacy/private supplier.

Although not a requirement of your stay, we recommend bringing a small supply of tests with you to continue regular testing throughout your holiday, particularly if you develop symptoms.

If somebody in the chalet contracts Covid during the holiday, they and any roommates will have to self-isolate in their room until the end of their booked stay. Staff will not be able to enter the room (in order to ensure the safety of the rest of the team and guests), but food and supplies will be delivered. If the self-isolation period extends the duration of the holiday, alternative accommodation will need to be found. Please ensure your travel insurance will cover this cost. Everybody else in the chalet will be tested for Covid and any other positive cases will be treated in the same way.

Whilst we do not anticipate additional requirements within the chalet such as facemasks at present, your Chalet Manager may amend or add to these measures at any time, based on a dynamic assessment of risk in the chalet and/or around the resort. These measures are all to ensure the safety and enjoyment of those around us and we greatly appreciate your cooperation.

In the Resort

Face masks are no longer required in enclosed public spaces in France, except for in public passenger transport and in health facilities.

Please note – there is not currently a requirement for fully vaccinated travellers to test to enter France or Switzerland. A free NHS lateral flow test is suitable for the purposes of demonstrating your Covid status prior to arrival in the chalet, if you have one available.

Please see below for some possible test suppliers. There are several test suppliers available to you, so do make sure you are happy with whichever test supplier you choose.

Testing & Passenger Locator Forms

Samos, Greece (Summer)

England’s entry requirements are detailed on the UK Government website and Greece’s entry requirements are shown on the UK Foreign Office Website and the Greek Government website.

With information changing regularly, please ensure you have read the travel guidance and are able fulfil any entry requirements at the time of travel.

If you have received both vaccine doses at least 14 days before departure and can provide evidence for this, there is no need to take a test prior to arriving in Greece. You will need to provide suitable evidence of your vaccination status. See accepted forms of evidence – as you will see, your NHS vaccine appointment card is not sufficient so please ensure you provide alternative acceptable evidence.

If you are not fully vaccinated, you will need to take a “test to depart” before you travel to Greece. Antigen tests are now accepted and can be taken at home before travel or in the airport before flying, however, you cannot use a free NHS test for this purpose. If you do need a “test to depart”, we have used c19 Testing, who sell Rapid Antigen Tests for £29 per test. These are suitable for entering Greece. You will need to order this in plenty of time to arrive before your holiday and then self-administer the test within 48 hours of your flight. The tests are valid for up to one year after ordering so you can do this well in advance of your holiday but you must not take it sooner than 48 hours before departure. You will need internet access to enter your details online and a certificate will be emailed to you, which you can print off and take with you or show on your device at the airport.

All passengers are required to complete a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) before entering Greece. You must complete this online no later than 11:59pm (local time Greece) the day before arriving in Greece, so it is advised that you do this in good time before your holiday. Please click here to learn more and complete your PLF.

All guests will be required to take a pre-return Covid test (a “test to return”) in Samos towards the end of your holiday in order to re-enter England. You will need to take this pre-return test even if you have been fully vaccinated, since vaccination status alone is not sufficient for re-entering England.

We recommend that you pre-order your test in the UK and take it with you in your suitcase – the c19testing Rapid Antigen test is suitable for this purpose. You can self-administer this test in Samos in the 3 days before the service on which you will arrive in England departs. You will need to ensure you have a device with internet access to upload your results and have your certificate emailed to you to show at the airport. Please note, results from a free NHS lateral flow test will not be accepted.

Alternatively, if you do not have a device with suitable internet access, you can visit a Pharmacy in Samos town to have a Rapid Antigen test taken. You will need to take a taxi to the Pharmacy and visit the walk in clinic – our team will be happy to help with booking the taxi to the correct location. The test will be administered and you will receive a certificate to take with you on your flight. This will cost about 20 euros plus the taxi fare.

All guests must also complete a second Passenger Locator Form (PLF) before entering the UK. You must complete this online within the 48 hours before arriving back in England; therefore, please take a device which can connect to the internet with you to Samos. Please click here for more information and to complete your PLF.

All guests will be required to take a PCR test on Day 2 after returning to England, including those who have been fully vaccinated. If Samos is on the “amber” list at the time of your holiday, you will also be required to take another on Day 8, unless you are fully vaccinated. If you have not been fully vaccinated and Samos is on the “amber” list, you will also need to self-isolate for 10 days upon returning to the UK.

It is an entry requirement of England to have pre-booked your Day 2 test (and Day 8 test if required), so please ensure you have pre-ordered these before returning from your holiday. You will need to provide the unique reference for each test on your Passenger Locator Form, so please make a note of these references when you receive your order confirmation email.

We recommend Randox Health and we have been given a discount code through our membership with the TTA. Although this supplier represents good value for money and we have had good experience using them, there are several test suppliers available to you, so do make sure you are happy with whichever test supplier you choose.

Randox Health

You can buy either a Day 2 PCR Test if you are fully vaccinated, or Day 2 and Day 8 PCR Tests if you are not fully vaccinated and Greece is still on the “amber” list.

Enter our discount code TTNG43 at the checkout to bring each test to £43.

Randox Health has their own network of drop-boxes available for you to return your sample to their labs for free (please check their website to find your nearest location) or you can post your sample at your own expense using your preferred courier to their lab address shown on their website.
