The conditions in Samos are ideal for people of all abilities and Mykali Bay provides an extensive sailing area.  The watersports centre is conveniently located right in front of the hotel and is equipped with a full range of sailing boats, catamarans and windsurfing equipment, details below. The watersports are only available to Richmond guests and the waterfront is RYA accredited and run by Richmond's own RYA qualified staff.

Laser Bahia:Bahia Born for club racing with a dynamic but forgiving hull shape that is easy to control making it perfect for a family cruise as well. Ideal for less experienced sailors with years of built in progression included.

The ride is smooth, the sailing position is perfect and the confidence factor is high. It's a chameleon that has different moods to suit the occasion. Its handling and performance will impress the enthusiast and tempt them into the race track, with an easy to use gennaker and adjustable kicker and cunningham allowing fine tuning on the water.

Newcomers and youngsters can be taught aboard easily and you can sail single-handed too.

Laser Radial

Laser Radial: The Laser is a challenging boat that rewards athleticism, subtle steering and trimming techniques, as well as tactical excellence. The Laser boasts a long list of veterans who are Olympic Medalists, America's Cup Helmsman, and Collegiate All-Americans, and so it's no wonder the International Sailing Federation awarded the Laser Radial with Olympic status!

Windsurfing Fleet

Windsurfing equipment is available for all levels of windsurfers, from beginners to advanced. Our range includes North Sails, and F2, Exocet and Lorch boards. The boards range from 210 litre beginner boards to 120 litre intermediate/advanced boards. Trainer boards range between 2.5m - 4.0m and monofilms range from 4.0m - 7.0m

A great addition to the Samos waterfront in 2011 was a range of new 2010 North Sail windsurf sails. North Sail has been making world class sails for over 50 years and are used by world champion windsurfers over several disciplines. Included in our selection we have the Natural and Ice sails. The Natural is powerful and light, a great all rounder shaped to allow easy sailing for the intermediate and advanced alike. The Ice, designed as a world class wave sail, allows for comfortable blasting and tight turns. The Ice allows the intermediate a responsive and forgiving sail while the advanced will make use of its world class qualities.

Single and double kayaks and a Pedalo are also available.

Use of all equipment is free!

Our instructors are all RYA quallified. Four safety boats provide safety cover.  Buoyancy aids are provided for all people using the watersports activities.  The facilities are recognised as an RYA Training Centre and will be able to offer official RYA sailing and windsurfing courses.

Powered watersports are also available from the beach at an additional cost. They are run by a local man and include water-skiing, wakeboarding, ringo rides and banana-boats.

For parents

During July and August the children's clubs keep the young entertained all morning creating the perfect time for you to get on the water. Lessons can be arranged for mornings only, just speak to the Waterfront Manager to explain your family's needs and they will do their best to accommodate you.

For the more mature

Whilst you may wonder why you had not already tried it, it's never too late to have a go! At all our centres you can learn for yourself, or just have a ride with some one else at the helm. Whatever your age or ability the staff will find a way to get you on the water.

What to bring?

Very little, if you have a swimming costume you will be fine! However, we recommend you wear shoes in the water and a rash vest can be useful. Sailing gloves and a wet suit are useful at the beginning and end of the season. Most importantly bring any RYA qualifications you have already so we can update your logbook.
